    Our policy on gender identity

      Welcome to the website of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Transsexual Affirmative Action Commission (LGBTT Commission) of the New Democratic Party of Canada — Quebec Section (NDP-Quebec).

    who we are
      The Commission is an association composed of all members of the federal New Democratic Party residing in Quebec who identify themselves to the Party as a member of a minority group for their sexual orientation (lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, two-spirited, asexual, questioning...) or gender identity or expression (transsexual, transgender, cross-dresser, intersex, genderqueer, androgynous, bi-gendered, questioning...). NDP-Quebec members who are allies of these groups are welcome to join the Commission as well.

    The Commission is one of several commissions in NDP-Quebec that represent members of traditionally underrepresented groups; others include the Women's Commission and the New Democratic Youth of Quebec. As an Affirmative Action Commission, the LGBTT Commission is represented on the Quebec Section's Board of Directors by two councillors.

    what we do
      Among the Commission's duties are to:
  • represent the LGBTT* community within NDP-Quebec, and represent the NDP within the LGBTT* community;
  • ensure that NDP-Quebec fulfills its obligation to promote equality for people of all sexual orientations and all forms of gender identity and expression, both in its internal workings and political positions;
  • carry out education on LGBTT* issues within NDP-Quebec;
  • help organize events and interventions by NDP-Quebec and NDP riding associations in Quebec within the LGBTT* community, for example election campaigns and the party's presence at Pride events.

  • our executive
      The Executive is elected by the membership of the Commission at a general assembly of the Quebec Section and sits until the next general assembly. The statutes provide for two co-presidents, at least one of whom must identify as a woman and at least one of whom must identify as LGBTT*, as well as a secretary and a treasurer; other ad hoc members of the Executive can be elected at a general assembly.

  • Co-president and member of the Quebec Section Board of Directors: vacant
  • Secretary: Raoul Gebert
  • Treasurer: Francis Salvadori
